A different story to what I’ve read in the past but I loved it. I enjoy books that have different and intriguing characters. And Eleanor is certainly that.
I wasn’t ready to be drawn into Eleanor’s life and be confronted with her way of life. It’s a lot to take in. And that’s why it’s so good because it was very unexpected. It’s also quite awkward, heart-warming and sad. Fucking sad in some parts.
The way you get to know Eleanor, how she is constructed, is done so well and the author really brings you in by revealing bits of Eleanor’s childhood to give you an idea of how she works. Very well written, would probably be one of my best reads.
Whilst the lesson in the story is one many have told before (don’t judge people on what you see on the outside, you don’t know what they’re going through on the inside) it does play out differently along the way with unlikely friendships formed in unlikely circumstances. I’m not going to say much more as I don’t want to give anything away but I very much recommend you read. And do so before the movie adaptation comes out!
